Gold Cuban rum is generic for the light bodied, aged brown rums from Cuba designed for mixing; these rums are comparable to the filtered rums, but retain their color from their barrel aging, modulated with the use of caramel color. The defunct Bacardi Carta de Oro rum was more or less the epitome of this style of rum.
