Blood orange is a variety of sweet, fresh orange fruit with a dark red flesh and juice. In cocktail use, a piece of blood orange, cut cross-wise as a wheel or lesser portion of a wheel, a twist of orange skin, or as a quarter-segment suitable for hand-squeezing over a drink or as a garnish. Also the basis for juice, extract, syrup, liqueur, and spirit constituent forms used commonly in drinks.
