Proprietary navy-style rum blend. “60% Guyana rum at 154 proof and 60% Jamaican rum at 170 proof are blended together and slowly stirred for 48 hours before dilution to 114 proof with filtered well water at the Five & 20 Distillery in Westfield, NY.” Navy rum originally refers to rum distilled in the British colonies (notably Jamaica, Guyana, and Barbados) of the West Indies and purchased in large quantities by the Royal Navy for rationing to its sailors. Much of this rum was aged in Great Britain and vatted for distribution. Aging Caribbean rums in the radically different climate of England yielded uniquely-flavored rums, and the term “London dock rum” was coined to label them. Today, the Royal Navy is long out of the rum business, but several brands, notably Lamb’s Navy Rum, attempt to maintain the tradition. Often bottled with a relatively high proof.
