Also known as “Szechuan pepper”. Sichuan peppercorn is the dried fruit pods of an Asian plant used extensively (but lightly) in Chinese and south Asian cuisine. Not related to either black pepper or chile peppers, Sichuan pepper has a vaguely lemon-like taste and produces a distinct numbing sensation in the mouth when consumed.
