Amer Picon Blanc

18% ABVFrance

Also known as “Picon Blanc”. Defunct, pale expression of the proprietary Amer Picon bitter orange gentian liqueur. Possibly introduced in the 1960s and evidently last produced in the 1970s. Based on photos of vintage specimens, not actually colorless, but perhaps paler than typical Amer Picon. Some seems to have been bottled at 18% ABV, and others at 21%. “Bittersweet orange-flavored amer in the style of Amer Picon” is generic for a rich orange-flavored gentian/quinine aperitif/digestif liqueur exemplified (and originated with) Amer Picon. In Alsace, these liqueurs are traditionally added to beer (mainly lagers) as an amer biére.
