Admiral Nelson’s Coconut Rum

21% ABV

Coconut-flavored rum is generic for any rum—typically aged, molasses-based—with natural or artificial coconut flavoring, often with additional spices. The best products will be infusions of rum and fresh coconut with little to no sweetening and bottled at or around 40% abv. Not to be confused with a coconut-flavored rum liqueur, some of which are labeled “coconut rum” but are heavily sweetened. There are two basic procedures for making your own homemade coconut-flavored rum: either drain a fresh coconut, refill with the rum of your choice, cork and wait; or disassemble a fresh coconut, adding the coconut meat to the rum in a sealed demijohn, infuse and filter.
