Beefeater Orange

Nominally a dry gin with natural or artificial orange flavoring and little or no sweetening. Caveat emptor: recipes in British bar guides during American Prohibition and thereafter calling for “orange flavored gin” often are indicating an orange liqueur with a gin base. An example is/was produced domestically by Charles Jacquin et Cie of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. You can make your own orange gin by macerating orange peel in dry gin for several hours, straining and adding simple syrup to taste. Choice of gin and type and quantity of orange peel will influence the outcome. There isn’t necessarily a benchmark other than your own preferences.
