Banyuls

Banyuls is generic for an AOC-protected class of dessert wines—mistelles, really—from the Roussillon region of France (and named for, but not limited to, the Banyuls commune). Banyuls is mostly a red wine produced mostly from the Grenache Noir, but a few other grapes are permitted in a blend. The wine is aged at least ten months in oak for a port-like character, or alternatively, oxidized in glass (exposed to the sun) for a completely different effect. Banyuls Grand Cru indicates aging of at least 30 months.
