Proprietary fortified wine aromatized with coca leaves to 6—7.2 mg cocaine per fluid oz. Introduced in 1963 and popular during the second half of the 19th Century. Fortified wines is an abstract category for a manufactured wine product with added brandy or neutral spirits and—optionally—some form of herbal or fruit flavorings incorporated through maceration or blending with tinctures. This category includes mistelles (where the fruit juice is fortified but not itself fermented).
