flavored tequila
Flavored tequila is a generic category for tequila which, after distillation, is flavored with natural or artificial herbal, spice, or fruit components through infusion or maceration. The flavoring of commercial tequila appears to be a relatively recent phenomenon, originating in the Mexican market and tentatively expanding to export markets, roughly in immitation of the established flavored vodka and flavored rum markets. As with those, flavored tequila often (though not necessarily) strikes a middle ground between a pure spirit and a liqueur, often exhibiting a slightly reduced bottle proof compared to tequila norms, with some tentative sweetening.
