Southern Comfort Special Reserve is currently the only Southern Comfort product made with actual whiskey. Whereas Southern Comfort was once a peach liqueur with a bourbon base, Special Reserve is a blend of bourbon with the peach liqueur with a neutral spirits base. Fruit-flavored liqueurs is an abstract category for sweetened and flavored spirits of various dilutions with fruit flavoring.
